"It was my childhood dream to visit Africa to see Nature in all its rich splendour."

Some dreams stay with you for decades before the right journey finally brings them to life.

For Jesuran Sahaya Mary, Africa had been living in his imagination since childhood. He had spent years fascinated by its incredible wildlife, hoping that one day he would witness elephants wandering across open plains, lions resting beneath acacia trees, and birds filling skies untouched by city life. As the years passed, that dream remained quietly on his bucket list until he and his wife, Pearlin, finally decided it was time to make it happen.

Rather than choosing a standard itinerary, Jesuran designed the safari around the experiences that mattered most to him. He wanted enough time in each destination, opportunities to enjoy nature at its own pace, and the freedom to experience Kenya's extraordinary wildlife without feeling hurried.

As he shared,

"My wife Pearlin (65 years) and I (69 years) decided to visit Kenya for a short 6-day trip. I decided that a customised trip would only meet my needs."

With two days in Amboseli, visits to Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru, and two unforgettable days in the Masai Mara, every destination had a purpose. Little did they know that this carefully planned journey would become everything they had hoped for and much more.

Every National Park Revealed a Different Side of Kenya

A lion pride became one of the highlights of Jesuran's Kenya safari

The adventure began in Amboseli National Park, where vast open plains stretched towards the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Their stay at Penety Amboseli Resort immediately immersed them in nature, with birds appearing around the property even before the first game drive had begun.

Inside the park, the wildlife seemed to appear effortlessly. Towering elephant herds crossed the plains, buffaloes grazed peacefully, and a pride of lions rested beneath the African sun. For Jesuran, who had imagined this moment since childhood, seeing these animals roaming freely in their natural habitat was every bit as rewarding as he had hoped.

Reflecting on Amboseli, he wrote,

"We saw the big three: elephant herds, a pride of lions and a herd of buffalo. There were a variety of birds, including the secretary bird, Kori bustard, black crake, etc."

The journey then shifted towards Kenya's famous Rift Valley lakes, where the experience changed completely. Instead of scanning the grasslands for predators, they found themselves surrounded by wetlands alive with birdlife. Every stop introduced another species, making the region especially rewarding for someone passionate about birdwatching.

Jesuran described Lake Naivasha as a paradise for water birds.

"Lake Naivasha had mostly water birds, including the ugly Marabou Stork, African Fish Eagle, Hamerkop, gulls, etc."

Lake Nakuru added another unforgettable chapter. Alongside thousands of pelicans and graceful flamingos, the park introduced them to white rhinos, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, and several impressive birds of prey soaring overhead.

As Jesuran put it,

"This is the best place for the White rhinos."

By this point, every park had revealed its own personality, making each day feel entirely different from the one before.

Masai Mara was Everything They Had Hoped to See

A flamingo sighting added a colorful touch to Jesuran's Kenya safari

Everything throughout the safari seemed to build towards the Masai Mara.

Stretching across nearly 1,500 square kilometres of protected wilderness, the reserve felt endless. Every game drive carried the excitement of discovering something unexpected, and every turn across the savannah seemed to reveal another remarkable wildlife encounter.

Jesuran captured that feeling perfectly.

"Masai Mara is the place to visit. Every turn in the road had something to offer. And your visit to the Mara is never complete."

Then came the kind of wildlife encounters that safari enthusiasts spend years hoping to witness.

One evening, they quietly followed a lioness searching patiently for her next hunt. The following morning, they admired a magnificent cheetah standing proudly across the grasslands before another unforgettable moment finally arrived.

Then came the sighting Jesuran had hoped for all along! A leopard resting peacefully beneath the shade of a tree! For Jesuran, spotting the leopard completed one of his biggest personal goals for the safari.

"The morning saw us with a cheetah in all its splendour. We also encountered a resting leopard, completing the Big Five."

The wildlife encounters continued throughout their stay. They admired a large pride of lions resting after a successful hunt, briefly followed a serval before it disappeared into the grasslands, watched vultures feeding alongside spotted hyenas, and spent time observing crocodiles and hippos along the famous Mara River.

Even after sunset, Kenya continued to surprise them.

"In the night, we were surprised to see a galago, the nocturnal bushbaby!"

Their visit to a traditional Maasai village became another memorable highlight. Meeting the local community offered a glimpse into a culture that has remained deeply connected to nature for generations.

Jesuran appreciated that experience just as much as the wildlife itself.

"It was great to see their culture, so intertwined with Nature, leading a simple life and giving so much importance to their cattle, customs and rituals."

Why Jesuran Chose Thrillophilia for His Kenya Adventure

For Jesuran, this journey was never about simply visiting another country. It was about fulfilling a dream that had stayed with him since childhood, and he wanted every part of the experience to reflect exactly what he hoped to see.

That is why he chose a customised itinerary through Thrillophilia. Instead of following a fixed schedule, the journey allowed him to spend meaningful time across Kenya's most celebrated wildlife destinations while balancing safari drives, birdwatching, cultural experiences, and comfortable stays throughout the trip.

Looking back, one of the biggest reasons the safari became so memorable was the people who brought it together. Their guide, Gideon, combined local knowledge with years of experience, helping them witness moments that would have been easy to miss without an expert beside them.

As Jesuran shared,

"We were lucky to have Mr Gideon, a strapping Masai youth, as our guide cum driver. He was very fluent in English. He had a terrific network of friends who were constantly feeding information."

That experience became even more meaningful during one particular wildlife sighting.

"But for his knowledge of the terrain and animal behaviour, we would never have seen the leopard resting in the shade."

Looking back on nearly a week spent crossing Kenya's most celebrated wildlife reserves, Jesuran felt that every moving piece of the journey had come together exactly as planned.

"Every part of the trip was seamlessly planned and well executed. The hotels were comfortable and well-located, and all the local operators and drivers were professional and helpful. The detailed itinerary meant everything ran smoothly per plan without any issues."

Before returning home, one final thought stayed with him. Beyond the incredible wildlife, he felt immense appreciation for the efforts that continue to protect Kenya's extraordinary natural heritage.

"I want to thank the Kenyan government for keeping the animals and birds safe in their natural habitat."

For Jesuran and Pearlin, this safari became far more than a holiday. It fulfilled a childhood dream, introduced them to some of the world's greatest wildlife reserves, and created memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
