Sri Lanka gave Amit Sachdeva the kind of solo trip where every few hours brought a completely different view. His journey moved through ancient temples, mountain towns, tea estates, waterfalls, colonial streets and the busy markets of Colombo.

Across seven days, Amit travelled through Kandy, Sigiriya, Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Galle and Colombo, experiencing both the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the island.

Kandy Opened the Trip With Culture and Tradition

Amit's Sri Lankan journey brought him to Kandy, where history and culture were at the centre of his experience. At the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, he saw one of Sri Lanka's most important Buddhist sites and explored a temple complex closely connected to the country's religious heritage.

His visit to a Sri Lankan Spice Garden offered a more sensory experience. He explored the gardens, learned about local spices and their traditional uses, and got a closer look at ingredients that are an important part of Sri Lankan cuisine.

Amit also visited a Gem Gallery, where he could see Sri Lanka's famous gemstones and jewellery. The day ended with a Kandy Cultural Show, where traditional music and dance performances brought another side of the city's heritage to life.

Sigiriya Offered a Climb Worth Taking

The ancient Sigiriya Rock Fortress gave Amit one of the most memorable experiences of the trip. Also known as Lion Rock, the enormous rock rises dramatically above the surrounding landscape.

Amit climbed towards the summit, passing ancient remains and the famous Sigiriya frescoes along the way. Reaching higher up opened up panoramic views of the surrounding greenery and countryside, making the climb worth the effort.

His day continued at the Dambulla Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside the caves, he saw Buddha statues and intricate paintings covering the interiors. The contrast between the enormous rock fortress at Sigiriya and the intimate cave temples at Dambulla made the day particularly varied.

The Hills Around Nuwara Eliya Felt Like Another Sri Lanka

The journey into Nuwara Eliya brought Amit into Sri Lanka's hill country. One of the first stops was Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, where he walked through landscaped gardens filled with tropical plants, flowering species and the distinctive Royal Palm Avenue.

The road towards Nuwara Eliya brought several memorable stops. At Ramboda Falls, Amit stopped to see the waterfall surrounded by the green hills of central Sri Lanka. He also visited a Hanuman Temple, connected to the Ramayana traditions associated with the region.

The tea country became another highlight. Amit visited a tea plantation and factory, walked through the lush tea gardens and saw how Ceylon tea moves from freshly picked leaves through the production process. He also got to enjoy a cup of freshly brewed Ceylon tea before continuing towards Nuwara Eliya. At Gregory Lake, the landscape changed again, with the calm waters surrounded by the hills that give the town its distinctive character.

The Train to Ella Became Part of the Experience

Amit's journey through the hill country continued towards Ella, beginning with a visit to Seetha Amman Temple. The temple is associated with the Ramayana and the story of Sita's captivity in Sri Lanka. Surrounded by greenery, it offered a quieter cultural experience before Amit continued towards Ella.

The journey itself became part of the experience when Amit boarded a train towards Ella. Sri Lanka's hill-country railway is known for its scenic landscapes, and the route gave him a chance to see the mountains and greenery from a completely different perspective.

He also passed the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, one of Ella's best-known landmarks. Set among dense greenery, the historic railway bridge is a striking example of colonial-era engineering and one of the most recognisable sights in the region.

Galle Brought Sri Lanka’s History Into Focus

Amit's next stop was Galle, where the atmosphere shifted from mountain landscapes to the coast and colonial history. Inside the Galle Fort, he explored streets surrounded by old fortifications and colonial-era architecture. The UNESCO World Heritage Site has a distinctive character, with historic buildings, narrow lanes and views towards the sea all contained within the fort walls.

He also visited the Galle National Museum, where he explored exhibits connected to the city's history and culture. At the Maritime Museum, Amit got another perspective on Galle's long relationship with the sea, trade and navigation. Together, these experiences gave him a closer look at the history of Sri Lanka's southern coast.

Colombo Was a Different Side of the Island

The final chapter of Amit's journey brought him to Colombo, where the pace became distinctly urban.

He visited Gangaramaya Temple, a colourful and eclectic Buddhist temple complex beside Beira Lake. He also saw the Lotus Tower, one of Colombo's most recognisable modern landmarks, and had the opportunity to take in the city from its elevated viewpoint.

His city tour took him through Colombo Fort, Pettah, Sea Street and Kayman's Gate. He also saw the Dutch Church of Wolvendaal, Kelaniya Buddhist Temple, Dewatagaha Mosque, Independence Memorial Hall, BMICH and the Colombo Museum.

The contrast was striking. In just a few days, Amit had gone from ancient temples and tea plantations to bustling markets and Colombo's modern skyline.

Ankita Naik had never been on a group trip before. So when she joined Thrillophilia’s 8-day winter journey through Spiti Valley, she was stepping into two unknowns at once: a completely new way of travelling and one of the most remote corners of the Himalayas.

By the end of the trip, it was the people she travelled with that she remembered just as much as the mountains.

And 'adventurous' is probably the right word. Over eight days, Ankita and fellow traveller Ashutosh Chavan went from Shimla into Kinnaur and Spiti, reaching places above 4,000 metres, crossing one of Asia’s highest suspension bridges, visiting monasteries that are centuries old and mailing a postcard from one of the highest post offices in the world.

The Road to Chitkul

The mountains started feeling serious as the group left Shimla behind.

The road wound deeper into Kinnaur, with pine forests giving way to sharper mountain slopes and the Baspa River appearing alongside the route. Their destination was Chitkul, sitting at around 3,450 metres (11,320 feet) and widely known as the last inhabited village on the Indian side of the Indo-Tibetan border. There is something wonderfully dramatic about that description. The last inhabited village. It makes the destination feel less like a sightseeing stop and more like the end of the road.

Chitkul sits in the Baspa Valley, surrounded by mountains and traditional Kinnauri homes. The village is also part of the old Hindustan-Tibet trade route. For Ankita, it was the first real taste of how remote this trip would become. The group stopped at Hindustan Ka Aakhri Dhaba, where a hot Himachali meal at roughly 3,500 metres made for a welcome break from the mountain roads. And somewhere between the long drive, shared food and unfamiliar faces becoming familiar, the first-time group tour started feeling less unfamiliar.

Nako, Where the Landscape Gets Stranger

The next stretch seemed to belong to another planet.

At Khab, the group reached the confluence of the Sutlej and Spiti rivers. The landscape around them was becoming increasingly barren, with huge mountains rising on either side of the road.

Then came Nako, a high-altitude village around 3,600 metres above sea level. Nako Lake offered a quieter moment. Willow and poplar trees surrounded the water, making an unexpectedly green patch in an otherwise stark landscape. Nearby, Nako Monastery and Nako Chango Gompa introduced the group to the Buddhist traditions that are woven into everyday life across Spiti.

And this is where a Spiti road trip becomes different from simply driving through mountains. You aren't just looking at peaks through a window. Every few hours, the road drops you into another tiny settlement with its own monastery, prayer wheels, homes and stories.

A 500-Year-Old Mummy and the Ajanta of the Himalayas

Spiti has a talent for producing travel stories that sound slightly unbelievable.

Take Gue Monastery. Inside this remote monastery is a naturally preserved mummy believed to be around 500 years old. The group got to see this unusual piece of Spiti's history before continuing towards Tabo. Then came one of the most important cultural stops of the journey: Tabo Monastery. Founded in 996 AD, Tabo is one of the oldest Buddhist monastic complexes in the Himalayas. It has nine temples, 23 chortens, ancient murals and meditation caves carved into the cliffs. Its collection of paintings and sculptures has earned it the nickname “Ajanta of the Himalayas".

The comparison isn't accidental. Like Ajanta, Tabo's importance lies in the art hidden within its walls. After the roar of mountain roads, walking into a centuries-old monastery with its dim interiors, murals and prayer-filled atmosphere must have felt like entering a completely different world.

Kaza, at 3,660 Metres

By the time Ankita reached Kaza, the group was firmly in high-altitude territory.

At around 3,660 metres, Kaza is the administrative headquarters of Spiti and the largest settlement on this route. But the real fun was still ahead. The next day took the group towards Key Monastery, perched at 4,166 metres above sea level. It is the largest monastery in Spiti and looks almost more like a fortress than a conventional monastery, with rooms and prayer spaces stacked into the hillside.

Then the group kept climbing.

At Hikkim, around 4,400 metres above sea level, Ankita could do something wonderfully ordinary in a very extraordinary place: send a postcard. Hikkim is home to one of the world's highest post offices. Suddenly, the idea of sending a postcard becomes much more fun when you're mailing it from a village perched high above the Spiti Valley.

Lunch at the Top of the World

If Hikkim was about sending a postcard, Komik was about asking yourself how high a village can actually be.

At around 4,587 metres, Komik is among the world's highest motorable settlements.

For Ankita and the group, this meant lunch surrounded by an almost surreal landscape of bare mountains, enormous skies and tiny settlements scattered across the valley.

And then came Chicham Bridge.

At roughly 4,145 metres, the bridge crosses a deep gorge, connecting the remote villages around Chicham and Kibber. Before the bridge existed, locals used a ropeway trolley to cross the gorge. Standing on it, with the mountains falling away beneath you, would be one of those moments when the word 'adventure' stops sounding like marketing language. You are simply there, very high up, very far from home, with a bunch of people you met on a group trip.

The Mountains Changed Again

Spiti does something clever on the road to Kalpa. Just when you think you've figured out its landscape, it changes again.

The route from Kaza passed through Dhankar, where the ancient monastery sits dramatically above the valley. Dhankar itself is perched at around 3,870–3,894 metres, depending on the reference point, and its monastery is believed to be around 1,200 years old.

From there, the group gradually left the stark, cold desert landscapes behind.

The mountains became greener. Pine forests returned. Apple orchards appeared around Kalpa, and the Kinnaur Kailash Range rose in the distance.

It was a fitting reminder of how much ground Ankita had covered. The trip had begun in Shimla, moved through Kinnaur and taken her deep into Spiti before bringing her back towards the greener side of Himachal.

For Bhanvi Gupta and her partner, Turkey became a nine-day romantic getaway across Istanbul, Cappadocia and Antalya. The route brought together historic neighbourhoods, the Bosphorus, Cappadocia's distinctive landscapes, Turkish cultural performances and the Mediterranean coast.

Rather than staying in one place, the couple got to experience three very different sides of the country. Their journey moved from Istanbul's Ottoman and Byzantine heritage to Cappadocia's valleys and then towards Antalya and the surreal terraces of Pamukkale.

Postcard from Istanbul

Istanbul gave Bhanvi and her partner their first taste of Turkey with an evening on the Bosphorus Dinner Cruise. They sailed between the European and Asian sides of the city while enjoying dinner and soft drinks, with the illuminated waterfront passing by around them. They could spot Istanbul's historic shoreline alongside modern buildings, creating a beautiful setting for their first evening together.

The Bosphorus Strait runs through the heart of Istanbul, connecting the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara. Cruising along it gave the couple a different view of the city, especially as landmarks and waterfront neighbourhoods appeared along the shore. The experience was relaxed, scenic and well suited to the romantic nature of their getaway.

The couple also explored Istanbul's history through the Full-Day Ottoman Relics and Byzantium Tour. They saw the influence of the Byzantine Empire and Ottoman Empire across the city's historic areas and visited landmarks that reflected Istanbul's long and layered past. With lunch included during the tour, they had a full day to explore the city's heritage while learning more about the two civilisations that shaped it.

Postcard from Cappadocia

Cappadocia brought a completely different landscape into Bhanvi and her partner's holiday. The couple explored South Cappadocia, where naturally formed rock formations and expansive valleys created the distinctive scenery the region is famous for.

They spent the day exploring the terrain and seeing Cappadocia's unusual geological formations up close. The landscape is particularly striking due to the soft volcanic rocks, sculpted valleys and towering formations. After experiencing Istanbul's dense historic streets, the open surroundings of Cappadocia gave the couple a dramatic change of scenery.

Their Cappadocia experience continued into the evening with a Turkish night. The couple watched traditional music and dance performances while experiencing an entertaining side of Turkish culture. After spending the day among Cappadocia's valleys and rock formations, the evening gave them a chance to experience the region through its traditions and performances.

Postcard from Antalya

Antalya brought the couple to Turkey's Mediterranean coast.

The couple explored Kaleiçi, Antalya's historic Old Town, where narrow streets lead between Ottoman-era houses, old city walls and small local shops during the Antalya Tour and Waterfall Tour. 

They saw Hadrian's Gate, the Roman-era entrance built in honour of Emperor Hadrian, along with the Clock Tower and Yivli Minaret, one of the city's most recognisable Seljuk landmarks. The walk also brought them towards the Old Harbour, where the historic centre meets the Mediterranean. The natural side of Antalya came through at the Düden Waterfalls. The Lower Düden drops dramatically from the cliffs into the Mediterranean, while the Upper Düden is surrounded by greenery and caves. 

The couple also got to experience Antalya's coastal character during their stay. The city sits along the Turquoise Coast, a part of the Mediterranean known for its clear blue waters and scenic shoreline. It gave their romantic getaway a more relaxed chapter after several days of cultural and landscape-focused sightseeing.

The journey through Turkey's landscapes reached one of its most distinctive points at Pamukkale. Bhanvi and her partner visited the famous Cotton Castle, where white travertine terraces spread across the hillside.

They saw the terraces formed by mineral-rich thermal waters flowing over the mountainside. The bright white formations contrast sharply with the surrounding landscape, creating the unusual appearance that gave Pamukkale its name. The couple also explored the ancient ruins of Hierapolis, an archaeological site located beside the travertine terraces. Walking through the remains of the ancient city while looking across the white formations made the visit particularly memorable.

Seeing Hierapolis and Pamukkale together allowed Bhanvi and her partner to experience both Turkey's ancient history and its natural beauty in one place.

Bhutan keeps getting delayed.

Not because flights are hard to find or the visa process is complicated. It just tends to get pushed behind something more convenient. Another year passes. Vikrant booked it in April anyway, and the first line of his review said everything about how that decision turned out.

"If Bhutan is on your bucket list, then I had an amazing experience with Thrillophilia."

Eight days. Four cities. One hike he talked about before anything else. And a 17th-century dzong that got its own mention because Vikrant is the sort of person who actually stands in front of old buildings rather than photographing them and walking off.

Phuntsholing Was Where Bhutan Began 

Bagdogra Airport on the 12th of April. Swift Dzire at arrivals. A couple of hours on flat Terai roads, and then the border town came into view. That is where Bhutan starts, before the mountains and the monasteries do.

The Bhutan Gate. Zangto Pelri Monastery. An easy walk by the Torsa River at dusk. Day one was planned to be gentle because the morning after meant immigration paperwork and the climb towards Thimphu.

Thimphu Settled Things Down

The drive on day two stopped at Chukha Dam. You look down from the road into a gorge, and the size of the dam only becomes real when you see the scale of the walls.

Thimphu, the afternoon was free time. Royal Botanical Garden, the Ludrong Memorial Garden, a capital city that does not rush. Vikrant had the evening to himself before the sightseeing started the next morning.

The Capital's Sights and Then the Valley

Day three covered the Thimphu tour first. Tashichho Dzong, the Buddha Dordenma statue watching over the valley from 51 metres up, the National Memorial Chorten, and the Motithang Takin Preserve.

Then the drive to Punakha through Dochula Pass. The 108 chortens sit at around 3,100 metres, and in April, the sky over them is clear enough to see the snow range behind. Nobody in the group seemed in a hurry to get back into the vehicle.

The Valley That Caught Everyone Off Guard

Phobjikha Valley on day four was the one that nobody quite expected to leave a mark.

The valley sits above 2,900 metres, and it is wide in a way that surprises you after the narrow river gorges below Punakha. The black-necked cranes had already gone north by April. What was left was a broad, quiet landscape, the Gangtey Monastery on the ridge above it, and a stillness that most Bhutan itineraries list as optional.

Vikrant brought it up in his review without being prompted. Said so himself.

Punakha Dzong stayed with him the longest

Day five was Punakha sightseeing before the transfer to Paro. The dzong sits where the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers come together. The walls are white, the roofs are deep red, and the whole structure sits in the fork of two rivers in a way that photographs have been trying to do justice to since cameras existed.

Vikrant is drawn to old buildings. He mentioned it in his review. The Punakha Dzong was the one he kept going back to. Chimi Lhakhang and the suspension bridge came after, then the drive over Dochula again and down into Paro by evening.

Haa Valley Was Bhutan Without the Crowds

Day six went to Haa Valley. Chele La Pass first, at 3,988 metres, with prayer flags across the ridge and the peaks sitting clear on both sides.

The Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo in Haa are old, quiet, and mostly visited by locals rather than tourists. Vikrant moved between them at his own pace. These places ask for that.

The Hike Everyone Came For

Day seven. Tiger's Nest.

Seven kilometres up through pine forest. Flags between the trees. The Paro Valley showed itself and disappeared again through the gaps in the hillside as the path climbed. And then the monastery on the cliff at 3,120 metres, the rock face dropping away beneath it further than the photographs suggest.

Inside were relics, meditation chambers, and murals repainted across hundreds of years. Vikrant named the Tiger's Nest as the trip's standout. People who do the hike tend to agree.

Day eight was the airport and the flight home.

When Ishita Saha started planning their trip to Bhutan with her husband, she already had a clear idea of what she was looking for. She wanted the comfort of a well-planned vacation, but she also wanted to challenge herself in ways she hadn't before.

From the Border to Bhutan's Capital

After completing permit formalities at the immigration office in Phuentsholing, they continued the scenic drive to Thimphu, passing waterfalls and catching distant views of the Tala Dam along the way.

The road gradually climbed into the mountains, and with every kilometre, the landscape became quieter and greener. By the time they reached their hotel in Thimphu, checked in, and settled down for the evening, it already felt like they had left the rush of everyday life behind. Having the transfers, permits, accommodation, and meals arranged from the start meant there was little to think about besides enjoying the journey ahead.

Later, while sharing her experience in a Google Map review, Ishita and Ayan reflected on how smooth the entire arrival had been. "Going from India to Bhutan involves a fair bit of paperwork and planning, but Thrillophilia handled the heavy lifting. We just had to show up and soak in the views." For Ishita, Bhutan had always been more than just a mountain destination.

"Bhutan is not only just mountains," she said. "There are so many cultures, traditions and hiking that I was talking about. The Paro Tiger Monastery part and there is Thimphu, there is Punakha, there is so much to experience. So that's why I chose Bhutan."

Exploring Thimphu Before Heading to Paro

After breakfast the next morning, they spent time exploring Thimphu before continuing to Paro later in the day. The sightseeing introduced them to several sides of Bhutan's capital. Buddha Point overlooked the city from above, offering panoramic views of the valley, while the Memorial Chorten reflected the quieter rhythm of daily life as locals walked around it with prayer wheels in hand.

They also visited the Motithang Takin Preserve to see Bhutan's unique national animal, explored Tashichho Dzong, and experienced Bhutanese traditions at Simply Bhutan, where local customs and crafts brought the country's culture to life in a simple, engaging way. It was also her first hiking experience. In her exact words, very excitedly she later mentioned, "So this was my first hike ever in my life, the Paro trek, and I absolutely loved it. Every bit of pain was worth it."

The climb took them through pine forests and steadily uphill towards the monastery, which clings dramatically to a cliff nearly 3,120 metres above sea level. The higher they climbed, the wider the valley stretched below them, making every pause an opportunity to appreciate the changing views. Reaching Tiger's Nest brought a sense of accomplishment that stayed with Ishita long after the hike ended.

But the surprises weren't over.

After returning from the trek, their guide, Chimmy, suggested trying a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath, which is an experience that hadn't been part of their original plans. When asked about the experience, Ishita shared, "I have experienced the hot stone bath for the first time. After the hike, I got the hot stone bath, and it was something different, something new that I have tried. And our guide Chinni only suggested that we do that, and I absolutely loved that."

The warm bath, prepared using fire-heated river stones, turned out to be the perfect way to unwind after a long day on the trail. Looking back, Ishita had only kind words for the people who made the experience even more memorable.

"Our driver and our guide, Chimmy, they are like adorable."

Ending the Trip with a Relaxed Morning in Paro

Their last morning in Bhutan started with breakfast at the hotel before they headed out to see a few final sights around Paro. They visited the historic Paro Rinpung Dzong, admired its traditional Bhutanese architecture, and walked across the old wooden Nyamai Zam bridge, taking in the quiet views one last time.

Soon, it was time to begin the drive back towards New Jalpaiguri. The return journey felt different from when they had first arrived. The excitement of discovering a new country had given way to the satisfaction of leaving with memories they knew would stay with them. In just four days, they had explored Bhutan's culture, completed a memorable hike, and experienced a pace of travel that never felt rushed, making it difficult to say goodbye.

Things changed in Pelling.

Known for some of the finest mountain views in Sikkim, Pelling offered a much closer encounter with the world's third-highest peak. The views felt bigger, clearer, and somehow more dramatic than before. Seven days in Sikkim sounds manageable until someone starts listing everything involved. There are permits to arrange, hotel changes across multiple towns, long mountain drives, and sightseeing days that begin before sunrise. Choosing the perfect destination for couples was not an easy task for Amey, a software engineer from New Delhi. He wanted to take her wife to a serene yet attractive place, where he and his partner could unwind and connect with nature. After arriving at Bagdogra Airport, Amey and his wife began their journey to Gangtok. They drove through rolling hills and the sparkling Teesta River to reach their hotel. The next day was dedicated to exploring Gangtok’s many attractions, and Amey quickly realised that the city had much more to offer than just scenic views. Amey, usually one for words, was speechless. “We just stood there, soaking it all in,” he later said. “It felt like time had stopped, and it was just us and the mountains. No words could capture the moment.”

A Journey to the Sacred Tsomgo Lake

After exploring the natural and cultural treasures of the hill station, what attracted Amey and his wife the most was their trip to Tsomgo Lake. 

Since it is located at an altitude of 3,753 metres, the couple braved the chilly winds to admire the serene beauty of the glacial lake, which was surrounded by snow-covered peaks. 

Amey shared, “It was absolutely magical. The lake looked like something out of a fairytale, and we even saw Brahminy ducks swimming on the icy water.”

Not far from the lake was the Baba Mandir, a temple dedicated to an Indian soldier named Baba Harbhajan Singh. Amey and his wife were intrigued by the temple’s history and the stories that local people shared about the soldier's protective spirit.

Amey’s wife commented, “It is amazing how folklore and faith come together here. It is unlike anything we have ever experienced!”

Spiritual Escape to Pelling and Ravangla

As the journey continued, the couple left Gangtok and made their way to Pelling. But before reaching Pelling, they made a stop at Ravangla, where they visited the majestic Buddha Park and saw the 130-foot statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. 

Amey described the experience as “surreal” while standing in the shadow of the giant Buddha with the majestic mountains behind them.

There was a stillness in the air, almost like the world had paused just for them. It was the kind of peace one does not get in everyday life.

In Pelling, the couple had the chance to visit the sacred Khecheopalri Lake, also known as the wish-fulfilling lake. Amey admitted that even though they were not particularly superstitious, they both made a wish as they stood by the calm waters, surrounded by fluttering prayer flags.

Tea Gardens and Snow-Capped Peaks

After a few days in Sikkim, it was time for the final leg of their romantic trip - DARJEELING.

Early one morning, they visited Tiger Hill just before dawn.

“We were freezing, but none of that mattered when we saw that sunrise”. The snow-capped peaks seemed to come alive in the morning light.

The lush green tea plantations stretched as far as their eyes could see. Walking through the tea gardens was a sensory experience - the soft rustling of the leaves in the breeze and the cool and damp earth beneath the feet. 

As a tea lover, Amey’s wife leaned in close to the bushes while gently running her fingers along the glossy leaves.

The kids loved Merlion Park, mostly because they found the half-lion-half-fish idea “very cool”. Navya loved Helix Bridge for its stunning design, while Vinay enjoyed the short stop at the ArtScience Museum, appreciating the architecture more than he expected.

But the moment that stayed with all four of them was stepping onto the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark. “It feels like the whole city is glowing,” Vinay said quietly, holding his younger son’s hand as they both looked down at the endless skyline. They laughed in Madagascar, screamed joyfully in Sci-Fi City, walked through New York, explored Ancient Egypt, and watched the boys’ faces light up in Far Far Away.

Navya kept saying, “Watching them enjoy this is the real joy of the trip,” and Vinay couldn’t agree more. The family moved at their own pace, enjoying every corner of the park without feeling rushed.

By the end of the day, the kids seemed tired but in the happiest way possible – the way only a theme-park day can make you feel.

Sentosa: Cable Cars, the Aquarium & a Magical Evening

Day 4 was Sentosa – a place that feels built for families like theirs.

The ride on the Singapore Cable Car was peaceful and scenic. The boys pressed their faces to the glass, excitedly pointing at everything down below. Navya felt a wave of calm looking at the coastline, the greenery, and the city meeting the sea.

At the Singapore Oceanarium, the family moved slowly, taking in the glowing blue world around them – sharks gliding past, colourful fish swirling together, and huge glass tunnels that made the kids feel like they were walking underwater.

But the best part of the day revealed itself in the evening: Wings of Time. As lights, water, music, and special effects blended into one beautiful show, Navya and Vinay shared a quiet moment watching their children: eyes wide, smiles bright, completely absorbed.

It felt like the perfect ending to a perfect day.

The Last Morning & Their Thoughts on Thrillophilia

On the final morning, as they packed up, there was a shared feeling among all four - gratitude. Gratitude for the experience, for the memories, and for the fact that their first international trip went smoother than they had imagined.

When my wife and I stepped out of the airport on the morning of December 5, 2024, it was not the grandeur of the Eiffel Tower or the promise of the Louvre that struck me first. It was the rhythm of life itself. A man on a bicycle moved past, balancing a baguette under his arm. Two elderly women, elegantly dressed, chattered animatedly outside a café. A musician played a soft tune on his violin and seemed lost in his own world.

“This city already feels alive,” my wife murmured, slipping her hand into mine.

This trip was a beautiful chance to immerse ourselves in a world that had inspired poets, artists, and dreamers for centuries. A world we were about to make our own.

Walk Through Time on the Streets of Montmartre

The moment we stepped into Paris, the city embraced us in its wintery charm. The crisp December air carried the scent of fresh pastries as we made our way to our hotel. Though exhausted from the journey, we could not resist stepping out to explore.

Montmartre was our first stop, a neighbourhood that felt like an artist’s dream. Cobblestone streets wound around charming cafés, musicians played soft melodies on street corners, and painters captured fleeting moments on their canvases. The entire place had an energy that was both vibrant and timeless.

At Place du Tertre, an elderly artist with years of Paris etched into his face offered to sketch us. “A memory you can take home,” he said in a thick French accent. As he worked, my wife and I sat in comfortable silence and watched the world go by. The finished portrait was simple and imperfect yet full of life. It became the first of many souvenirs we would cherish from this trip.

That evening, standing on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, we watched the sun dip behind the Parisian skyline. The city stretched endlessly before us, and golden rooftops merged into a soft purple horizon. 

Living a Parisian Dream from the Eiffel Tower to the Seine

The next morning, Paris unfolded before us in a way I had never imagined. The grandeur of the Place Vendôme, the artistic soul of Musée d’Orsay, the elegance of the Pont Alexandre III - every corner whispered stories of the past.

But nothing prepared me for the moment we stood beneath the Eiffel Tower. As a child, I had seen its image a hundred times, but standing there in its shadow was something else entirely. The iron structure, both strong and delicate, seemed to breathe history.

We took the elevator up to the second level, and the city spread beneath us like an artist’s masterpiece. My wife gripped my hand, and her face was glowing with excitement. “It is even more beautiful than I imagined,” she whispered.

Later, we boarded a boat for the Seine River cruise. As we glided past the illuminated Notre Dame and the Louvre, I realised why Paris was called the city of love. There was something magical about floating under its bridges while the reflections of golden lights danced on the water—the cold air bit at our skin, but the warmth of the moment made up for it.

A Day of Magic and Nostalgia in Disneyland Paris

The third day was a childhood dream come to life. We stepped into Disneyland, where fairy tales and reality blurred. Despite my wife’s usually composed nature, she yelled in excitement as we saw Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.

We rode Hyperspace Mountain, screamed on the Big Thunder Mountain, and laughed like kids on the spinning teacups. But the real magic happened in the evening. As we stood watching the fireworks explode above the castle, I saw my wife wipe away a tear.

“You okay?” I asked, squeezing her hand.

She nodded, smiling. “It just reminds me of when I was a kid. I never thought I would see this in real life.”

At that moment, I realised travel is all about rediscovering parts of yourself you thought you had forgotten.

Parting with Paris, But Not With Its Magic

On our last morning in Paris, I stared out of our hotel window and watched the city wake up. The early morning hush was interrupted only by the sound of distant footsteps and the clinking of cups from a nearby café. It was strange - how a place that had once been a distant dream now felt like home.

As our train to Munich pulled away, I knew this was not the end. Paris has given us stories to carry in our hearts - stories of art, love, and unexpected moments.

And just like the echoes of a beautiful melody, the essence of some places lingers on with you.
