"The mountains are never the same twice. The light changes, the clouds move, and the view becomes something entirely new."

For Rohit Damke, that perfectly summed up his eight-day journey through Sikkim and Darjeeling. This was also his first experience travelling with Thrillophilia, and like many first-time travellers, he wasn't entirely sure what to expect. What followed was a week that moved through different landscapes, cultures, and experiences, each destination revealing a different side of the Eastern Himalayas.

From bustling mountain towns and centuries-old monasteries to sacred lakes, waterfalls, and endless tea gardens, the journey never stayed the same for long. Every couple of days brought a new destination, a different pace, and a fresh perspective on the region.

Discovering the Many Sides of Sikkim

Nestled among the clouds, Darjeeling offered Rohit unforgettable views and peaceful moments

The trip began in Gangtok, a city that somehow manages to feel energetic and relaxed at the same time. The roads buzzed with activity, cafés remained busy throughout the day, and visitors wandered through markets looking for souvenirs, local snacks, and warm clothing for the days ahead.

The following sightseeing tour offered a deeper look into the region's culture and natural beauty. One moment, Rohit was standing at Tashi Viewpoint, admiring the distant mountain ranges; the next, he was exploring monasteries where prayer wheels spun quietly, and chants echoed through the halls. Places like Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok, and the Institute of Tibetology revealed different layers of Sikkim's identity. At the same time, Ban Jhakri Falls, Bakthang Waterfall, and Lhasa Waterfall showcased the region's natural charm.

The journey continued through East Sikkim, where every turn seemed to reveal another panoramic view. Prayer flags fluttered across mountain ridges, forests covered entire hillsides, and small settlements appeared unexpectedly before disappearing around the next bend. It was the kind of landscape that encouraged travellers to keep looking out of the window, just in case the next view turned out to be even better than the last.

The Day Kanchenjunga Took Centre Stage

The majestic Kanchenjunga range stole the spotlight with its snow-covered peaks and breathtaking reflections

By the middle of the trip, Rohit had already caught glimpses of Kanchenjunga from several locations. Yet the mountain somehow managed to look different every single time.

In Gangtok, it appeared distant and almost dreamlike beyond the city skyline. Later, while travelling through the hills of Sikkim, the mountain occasionally emerged between clouds before disappearing once again behind the landscape. Every sighting felt brief, almost as if the Himalayas were revealing themselves a little at a time.

Things changed in Pelling.

Known for some of the finest mountain views in Sikkim, Pelling offered a much closer encounter with the world's third-highest peak. The views felt bigger, clearer, and somehow more dramatic than before. Whether visiting Khecheopalri Lake, exploring Pemayangtse Monastery, or simply travelling between attractions, Kanchenjunga seemed to dominate the horizon.

One morning, the peaks stood brilliantly clear against the sky. By afternoon, drifting clouds had completely transformed the landscape. It was fascinating how the same mountain could appear so different within a matter of hours.

The final and perhaps most memorable encounter came in Darjeeling. Like countless travellers before him, Rohit made the early morning journey to Tiger Hill. Before sunrise, the viewpoint was filled with visitors wrapped in jackets, waiting patiently for the first light of the day.

Then it happened.

The darkness slowly lifted, and Kanchenjunga began to emerge from the horizon. As sunlight touched the snow-covered peaks, conversations faded, and cameras appeared almost instantly. For a few brief moments, the entire crowd seemed focused on the same view. After seeing the mountain from different parts of the journey, watching it illuminated by the first rays of sunlight felt like the perfect finale.

From Monasteries to Tea Gardens

If Sikkim introduced Rohit to monasteries, waterfalls, and mountain landscapes, Darjeeling added a completely different atmosphere to the journey.

The town moved at its own pace. Tea gardens stretched across the hillsides, toy train tracks curved through the landscape, and colonial-era buildings added character to the streets. Attractions like Batasia Loop and Ghoom Monastery offered glimpses into the region's history, while the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and local tea estates highlighted traditions that continue to define Darjeeling today.

One of the enjoyable parts of the trip was seeing how different the two destinations felt despite sharing the same Himalayan backdrop. Sikkim often felt spiritual and serene, while Darjeeling carried a lively hill-station charm. Together, they created a journey that never became repetitive.

By the final days of the trip, Rohit had experienced mountain lakes, monasteries, waterfalls, valleys, tea estates, and some of the most famous viewpoints in the Eastern Himalayas. Yet the transition between destinations always felt smooth, allowing him to focus on the experience rather than the logistics.

Why Rohit Chose Thrillophilia for His First Himalayan Journey?

Since this was Rohit's first trip with Thrillophilia, the experience carried an extra level of importance. A well-planned itinerary, reliable support, and smooth coordination often shape a traveller's first impression, and this journey delivered on all three.

From the initial planning stage, Jibon helped Rohit, the destination expert, secure a package that matched his requirements while offering excellent value. Throughout the trip, Rupal remained in touch and ensured that everything progressed smoothly. The local operations team also played an important role behind the scenes, with Nikita staying connected and helping coordinate the journey from start to finish.

In Rohit's own words:

"This is the first time I have used Thrillophilia services for travel. The whole process was really smooth. Our heartfelt thanks to Thrillophilia for providing us with such a great 8D/7N tour as per our requirements. Kudos to Jibon for giving us the best deal & Rupal for being in touch throughout the trip. Amazing local tour operator; special shoutout to Nikita for being in constant touch and ensuring the trip is well planned."

For a first experience, it was exactly the kind of feedback any traveller hopes to give at the end of a journey. Eight days, countless memories, and a different view waiting around every corner.
