An European Honeymoon where Switzerland Stole the Show: Saksham's Thrillophilia Trip Review
December 17th - 26th, 2023
Our journey began on a crisp winter morning, leaving the familiarity of home behind for the enchanting unknown. Europe had always been our dream, and here we were, beginning our dream honeymoon adventure across Rome, Florence, Venice, Zurich, and Paris. With each destination, the days seemed to blur into moments of awe, laughter, and love. Here’s a glimpse into our story – a journey that felt like a series of beautiful chapters in a love story.
Day 1-2: Rome- Stepping Into History
Our first taste of Europe was in the Eternal City – Rome. I could tell the moment we arrived that this was going to be an unforgettable trip. Rome was a living, breathing museum. From our very first evening stroll down Via Cavour, we were welcomed by bustling cafés, music wafting through the air, and the charm of cobblestone streets.
The next day, we plunged into the heart of ancient Rome. As we wandered through the Imperial Forums, I couldn’t help but feel like we’d slipped back in time.
“Imagine what it was like back then,” my wife said, looking at the towering ruins. The Colosseum, Vatican City, and St. Peter’s Basilica – each landmark made us fall deeper in love with the city’s legacy.
Day 3: Florence- Art and Romance
Leaving Rome felt bittersweet, but as we journeyed north to Florence, the beauty of the countryside unfolded around us. The scenic drive seemed like a movie backdrop, with rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves stretching as far as the eye could see.
Arriving in Florence was like stepping into a painting. Our first stop was Piazzale Michelangelo, where we soaked in the city’s stunning skyline. That evening, we explored Florence with a local guide, stopping by the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio.
It was a city full of stories, art, and history. Wandering the streets of Florence with my wife felt surreal; it was as if the city had wrapped us in its warm embrace, showing us its treasures and timeless charm.
Day 4: Venice- A Fairytale on Water
From Florence, we ventured into Venice. It was a beautiful afternoon, and as our boat glided across the water, Venice appeared like a dream. The canals, the narrow bridges, the architecture- everything about this city felt magical.
We visited St. Mark’s Basilica, with its gleaming mosaics and soaring domes, and explored a Murano glass factory where we watched artisans create masterpieces from molten glass. Later, we had some free time to wander through the city on our own. Venice was an experience like no other, a fairytale come to life, and a place we knew we’d forever hold close in our memories.
Day 5-6: Zurich and the Swiss Alps- A Winter Wonderland
We then journeyed through the snow-kissed Tyrolean Alps, making a brief stop at Innsbruck. The picturesque town felt like a postcard come to life, with its cozy houses and snow-laden roofs. But the real magic awaited us in Switzerland.
Arriving in Zurich felt like entering a winter wonderland. The historic city center by the lake sparkled under the winter sky, and we took a long stroll, breathing in the fresh air.
The next day, we set off for Grindelwald and Lucerne. The highlight was a cable car ride to the mountaintops, where we were greeted by glaciers, snowy trails, and even a suspended bridge that we dared to cross. Standing there, high above the world, surrounded by snow and the quiet majesty of the Alps, we knew this was a moment we’d never forget.
Day 7-9: Paris- The City of Lights and Love
We then crossed into France, to the heart of romance itself- Paris.
Our first day began with a visit to Versailles. Walking through the opulent halls of the palace felt like stepping into another era entirely. But Paris had so much more in store for us. Next day, we ventured up the Eiffel Tower, gazing out over the city. Later, we took a serene cruise along the Seine River, watching the sunset and the lights of Paris beginning to twinkle. “It’s even more beautiful than I imagined,” my wife whispered, and I knew exactly what she meant.
We spent the afternoon wandering the streets, popping into small boutiques, and savoring our last moments in this incredible city. Paris had been a place where we felt more connected, more inspired, and more in love. With each other.
Reflections: A Journey Etched in Our Hearts
As we boarded our flight home, a wave of nostalgia hit us. We flipped through our photos, each one a snapshot of a memory we’d created together. Europe had shown us its grandeur, its romance, and its beauty, but it had also given us something more profound. It had strengthened our bond, deepened our love, and filled our hearts with gratitude for the experiences we’d shared.
Looking back, I realize that each destination has gifted us something unique – Rome’s history, Florence’s art, Venice’s mystery, the Alpine serenity of Zurich, and the timeless romance of Paris. Our journey across Europe had been a story of love, laughter, and countless unforgettable moments. We returned home not just with souvenirs and photos, but with a love story written across the cities and mountains of Europe.
