“Don’t you feel like we’re walking in blue heaven?” Simerjit marvelled at the white and blue alleys of Santorini. A few months back they did not think that they would be on this dream vacation and here they were overlooking the Aegean Sea!Visiting Greece had always been her dream, but life’s responsibilities and a busy routine had kept it on hold. One evening, while sipping tea on their balcony, her husband suddenly declared, “Enough waiting! Let’s plan a family trip now, or we’ll keep postponing it forever.” Simerjit was stunned and stayed silent for two minutes, trying to process the moment. Then, with a playful grin, she said, “Alright, alright! Let’s go to Greece!” Her excitement bubbled over as she eagerly started planning.
When she broke the news to her daughter (their kids), she was super ecstatic. They couldn’t stop sharing reels of beautiful hotels and must-visit spots. While researching Greece packages, Turkey also caught her attention. Simerjit and her family were in awe of how beautifully Turkey combines its old-world charm with modern life. On their tour of the city and seeing the Byzantine and Ottoman relics, their intricate designs and fascinating stories behind ancient artefacts made history come alive, sparking curiosity and wonder for everyone.
The evening cruise along the Bosphorus Strait was magical. They enjoyed the glowing Istanbul skyline, shared laughs, and bonded over a delicious dinner while taking in the breathtaking views of the illuminated city. While all the experiences were memorable, what truly stole Simerjit’s heart was the serene Whirling Dervishes performance at Hodjapasha. Watching this soulful Sufi dance felt like a spiritual journey, as the synchronized movements created a deep sense of connection and peace.
On their last day, they had an exhilarating experience on the Bursa Cable Car, enjoying breathtaking views of the lush mountains and the city below. The shopping tour added a delightful touch, as they explored local markets and discovered unique treasures. The day was perfectly rounded off with a delicious lunch, making it a memorable outing for the whole family.
The Ancient Aesthetics
A city rich in culture and history, Athens was like a time travel into ancient Europe. Its grand landmarks, ruins, and museums made us all awestruck with amazement. Their adventure began with a city tour, where they marvelled at iconic landmarks like the Parthenon and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The blend of ancient ruins and vibrant city life left them in awe as they walked through the historic streets. Simerjit’s daughter is a big-time history buff and exploring these landmarks made her fall in love with Athens.
At the Acropolis Museum, they were fascinated by the incredible artefacts and stories from ancient Greece. The museum’s exhibits brought the history of Athens to life, and the stunning views of the Acropolis added to the experience.
A full-day trip to Delphi was the highlight of their visit. Surrounded by breathtaking mountains, they explored the ruins of the ancient sanctuary and learned about the Oracle of Delphi, a symbol of Greek mythology and wisdom. The family enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and stunning landscapes, making it a truly enriching experience.
Time to See the Sea!
It was time to step into the beach mode and explore the most beautiful islands in Greece - Mykonos and Santorini! Even before stepping onto the island, Simerjit could smell the tropical aroma and groove-on beach vibes. Their time in Mykonos was a blend of exploration and beach fun! In Mykonos, they started with an island and city tour, where they wandered through charming streets lined with whitewashed houses and colourful doors. The iconic windmills and vibrant local culture left them amazed. The family’s twinned outfits perfectly matched the island’s white backdrop, making for some memorable photos.
On their leisure day, they enjoyed a delicious dinner at a cosy seaside taverna, savouring Kleftiko, a famous Greek dish. The meal, paired with the warm hospitality and scenic views of the Aegean Sea, made for a delightful family dinner experience.
After their time in Mykonos, they took a ferry to Santorini, where the journey itself was exciting with the sparkling blue sea all around. In Santorini, they embarked on a cruise to the caldera and explored the volcano. They were fascinated by the rugged beauty of the landscape and enjoyed the unique experience of dipping into the Thermal Springs, feeling the soothing warmth of the mineral-rich waters.
The family took a relaxing break on the last and headed to one of Santorini’s beautiful beaches. They played in the soft sand, dipped their toes in the crystal-clear water, and relaxed under the sun, creating wonderful memories together. The evenings in Santorini were magical in particular with captivating sunsets, with the sky painted in hues of orange and pink, offering a perfect backdrop for their family time.
Simerjit and her family cherished every moment of their Greek island adventure, from exploring the unique architecture of Mykonos to the breathtaking natural beauty of Santorini. It was a trip filled with laughter, delicious food, and unforgettable experiences.
Looking Back to Lovely Memories
Simerjit was flooded with emotions as they journeyed home. She glanced at her drowsy daughter looking at her happy and peaceful face, she reflected upon the trip and her thoughts drifted to the memories they had made together and the breathtaking places they had explored. With a gentle sigh of gratitude, she closed her eyes, letting the highlights of their adventure play like a cherished dream.
